Trinity is now UnityPoint Health | Trinity.  A new name.  A new day in health care.

Gifts at Work

Each year we average nearly $500,000 in proceeds that we can return back to Trinity Medical Center and the surrounding community. This funding helps support new equipment, community outreach, and patient education opportunities that wouldn’t be possible without the support of our donors and contributors.

Over the years, we’ve been able to average the following percentages of allocation:
  • Staff Development, Scholarships and Support – 12 percent
  • Direct Patient Care  –  78 percent
  • Community Health Outreach – 9 percent
  • Patient Education – 1 percent

Here is a small list of some of the resources the Trinity Health Foundation has been able to provide:

VNHA Telemonitors allow for physicians to better manage their critically ill patients by collecting vital information in a three-minute procedure which is then sent along to medical staff to improve the patient’s follow-up care without inconveniencing the patient.

Emergency Prescription Medication Fund for low income patients without resources (those who are too poor to purchase insurance but not poor enough to qualify for public aid).

Durable Medical Equipment to help terminally ill patients in Trinity’s Pathway Hospice Program.

The 11-bed Pathway Hospice Unit at Terrace Park was renovated and furnished with a grant from the Foundation to create a Hospice In-patient Unit for terminally ill persons and their families.

Cardiac Telemetry Monitoring System provides state-of-the-art surveillance of cardiac patients after open heart surgery, valve replacement, heart attack and other cardiovascular problems.

Trinity’s Parish Nurse Program supports nurses who provide church-based and community-based preventative health care services to the members of their respective congregations.

Scholarships for Nursing Students who attend Trinity’s College of Nursing and Health Sciences.

Wound Care Supplies and Equipment for Financially Stressed Patients. A grants was awarded for wound care supplies and equipment for financially stressed patients whose wounds (usually due to diabetes) have healed but who do not have the resources to pay for the “post wound center” treatment they require. Such treatment helps prevent a reoccurrence of the wound or amputation.

Stroke Camp for stroke survivors and their caregivers, who need help in adjusting and finding new ways to improve the quality of their lives. This 3 day “Stroke Camp” held at Camp Menno Haven helped them share challenges, explore solutions, establish new relationships through education, support, socialization and relaxation.

School Based Telepsychiatry Program and equipment was purchased and located in two area schools makes it possible for the Robert Young Center psychiatrists to deliver services to children in need through videoconferencing via the internet. This telepsychiatry program is geographically convenient and comforting since the service is provided in the school setting rather than in a clinical setting.

Breast Cancer Screening Services for Women without Resources provided funds that made it possible for women without resources to receive mammograms, breast ultrasounds and breast biopsies.

Cancer Center Equipment for Trinity’s Cancer Center such as the equipment for Prostate Cancer Seed Implant Treatment.

Neonatal Transporter, as the need to transport unstable infants has increased steadily during the past few years. Newborns, who at other times in history would have probably died are surviving now because of the advances in medical care. Though they fortunately survive at birth, these babies (neonates) require higher levels of care and must be transported from outlying community hospitals to Trinity. A state of the art Neonatal Transporter was purchased with funds from the foundation to help care for these precious bundles of life.
