The Acute Medical Neurological Unit located on the 4^th floor at Trinity Rock Island provides care to a specific population of patients such as those with stroke, head injury, spinal cord injury, epilepsy, brain tumors and other broad ranges of neurological dysfunction. The unit has 17 private rooms. Eight of the rooms are designated and specially designed for epilepsy patients. Special equipment is in place to monitor the patients 24 hours a day, seven days a week if indicated. 

 

All patients on the Neurological Unit have an initial assessment of their needs performed by an RN upon admission to the unit. Using this information, a plan of care is developed by the multidisciplinary team involved in the care of the patient. The multidisciplinary team includes the patient, family, significant others and health care providers as appropriat. Together, this group works on the formulation of goals, treatment interventions, decisions related to care and the delivery of services on a continuous basis throughout the patient’s stay.
