Trinity Medical Center and our partners at Advanced Imaging Center offer a wide range of diagnostic imaging for neurological disorders including ultrasound, CT, MRI, PET/CT, and nuclear medicine. 

CT is typically the first test ordered by your physician and is useful to evaluate for hemorrhage, stroke, and other common neurological problems. 

MRI has improved contrast compared to CT and is excellent in defining intracranial anatomy and pathology. MRI has the ability to detect an acute stroke within minutes of onset, and is the best test in evaluating brain tumors. 

In patients with dementia, a PET/CT may be useful to differentiate the different types of dementia, which may alter the prognosis and treatment course of the disease. Ultrasound has a limited role in the evaluation of the neonatal brain when there is concern for hemorrhage. 

Nuclear medicine has a very specific role in evaluating brain shunts if there is concern for blockage, or evaluating for leak of spinal fluid. Three fellowship-trained neuroradiologists are available for consultation, and all studies are interpreted by board certified radiologists.
