Adult Outpatient Services
Individual, Marital, Family, and Group Psychotherapy
The majority of clients served by the Robert Young Outpatient department are involved in the process of therapy with a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW). Clients can be seen in individual, marital, or family therapy. If clinically appropriate, group therapy with other clients experiencing similar problems is utilized.
Each client receives a full mental health assessment at the Access Center. Based on the needs identified in the assessment, the client will be referred to a therapist for problem-specific mental health treatment.
Psychiatric Services
A psychiatric evaluation may be scheduled to assess the need for medication therapy. Medication therapy provides relief of symptoms related to mental illness that cause interference with the client's daily functioning. Referrals for psychiatric evaluations are accepted from physicians, therapists, court systems, schools, and other agencies.
Partial Hospitalization Program
This is a group-based treatment program which operates from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Friday. The purpose of the treatment program is to maintain or improve an individual's current level of functioning, and to treat acute mental illness in the least restrictive environment.
Benefits of the program include an intensive short-term treatment mode rather than longer-term individual therapy. The program is also used as a transition from, or as an alternative to, inpatient hospitalization. The group-based treatment offers interpersoal skills in a supportive, therapeutic environment. The specific components of the program include brief, interpersonal skill building groups on:
- Self esteem
- Assertion and communication
- Goal setting
- Healthy lifestyle planning
- Relaxation and tension reduction
Other components include: Intensive psychotherapy, emotional awareness, personal analysis sessions, and family support and education.
